Brighton police promotes child safety awareness

Brighton Beach SAPS spread awareness at a recent campaign which focused on child safety.

MOTHERS recently received support from Brighton Beach SAPS in a campaign which focused on child safety.

“As we celebrate mothers during May, a project hosted by Bluff Curves and Brighton Beach division media monitoring focused on the safety of mothers and those who take of the responsibilities of mothering children placed in their care,” said Brighton Beach SAPS media officer, Captain Louise Le Roux.

Those involved in the campaign distributed 1,000 brochures on safety at Bluff Towers, Hillside Mall and Bluff SuperSpar.

“The aim of the project was to create greater awareness for mother, guardians and caregivers when children are in their care.”

The brochure contained information on safety for children when in malls and when swimming; prevention of theft by snatching or pick pocketing; theft from and out of motor vehicles; hijacking prevention and kidnapping.

“Recipients of the brochure also received a helpful pocket-size emergency telephone card list, which they can keep in their purse or handbag and also place on the fridge or around the house.

Brighton Beach SAPS management thanked Curves for its partnership and for sponsoring the brochures and telephone card list. The management of the three malls were also thanked for affording the SAPS a platform to host the public awareness campaign.

Reservist Captain Avril Fabré, Captains Beryl Smale and Louise Le Roux were thanked for the operational deployment duties. Capt Le Roux was also acknowledged for researching and developing the brochure and telephone emergency card list and for being the project manager and operational commander.

“Through partnership initiatives like these, the SAPS is able to raise awareness on the safety of women in public spaces. Together we can achieve more.”
