The Wentworth Arts and Culture organisation has done sterling work for the youth and community upliftment by providing access and opportunities to learn more about the arts.

The Wentworth Arts and Culture organisation appeals to locals in the community to attend its dance auditions for youth aged between five and 20-years-old on Saturday, 26 January at 25 Juggernaut Road, Merebank at St Mary’s Catholic Church hall at 10am.

The popular Dance Movement project is currently running in its 12th year. The non-profit dance organisation has done sterling work for the youth and community upliftment by providing access and opportunities to learn more about the arts. Despite the major challenges the organisation experiences with lack of funding support and losing their venue at Transhaven, their ethos continues with providing a platform for arts and culture education for the disadvantaged and marginalised.

Dance classes involve a structured training programme in styles like hip hop, break dancing, contemporary, jazz, African, Ngom, Bollywood and other styles too. Students will also have the opportunity to participate in formal, accredited national dance exams, festivals, workshops and dance productions.

They also train young professionals who aspire in taking this on as a career in the industry and also have dance class for the disabled and the elderly.

“The arts and culture sector is such an important part in the community and social development and I hope proper plans can be implemented by our investors and government to support such programmes that have tremendously benefitted our disadvantaged youth in reaching their goals,” said artistic director Jarryd Watson.

One of the goals for the youth of Dance Movement is raising funds to get its dancers to represent South Africa at the United Dance Organisation (UDO) World Championship Street Dance Competition in England in August 2019. The group has to raise a whopping R500,000 to get their 12 members selected to represent South Africa.

The organisation appeals to business interested in investing in their projects in any way to make contact. The organisation is a registered non-profit organisation NGO, public benefit organisation (PBO), provides section Income 18 tax rebate letters for SARS and is a level one B-BBEE contributor where investors can earn B-BBEE points for donations and support to the organisation.
