Since announcing the start of the Fynnland Crest Drummies, Bonny Fourie and Sindi Ngcobo have had a great response from parents and young girls. “We are now a team of 20 girls ranging from the age of seven to 12-years-old. The purpose of this team is to bring back what used to be the most competitive sports back in the day. I have been doing drummies for many years, since I was in grade one and I know how it can change a life,” said Fourie.

Drummies is not as easy as it seems, as the girls practise hard and spend many hours on drills with different equipment and movements. “Drummies is good for discipline, commitment, and friendships. It gives the children a chance to be in a team, especially for the girls who are not athletic, and can’t join boy-dominated sports,” she added.
The team is still new and in the progress of developing, and will compete in its first competition in February, but the girls do not have a uniform.

In affiliation with Fynnlands Sports Club, the drummies team will host a fundraiser in a bid to raise money for the uniforms which will cost an estimated R12,000. “It is a lot of money but it is something the girls need to look the part in the competition. We ask the community to support us on 27 January at Fynnlands Sports Club grounds. The girls will give their first performance at the event and they are so excited,” said Ngcobo.
The fundraiser will have live entertainment, food, raffles and much more. It starts at noon. For more information on the fundraiser contact Sharon on 084-511-6516.
