Joint intelligence-driven operation yields excellent results

Two suspects were arrested, a vehicle used in one of the robberies was found and house breaking implements were also recovered during the joint operation.

A combined intelligence-driven operation between various crime fighters and police lead to the arrest of a gang of business and house robbers this week.

“Over the last couple of months, Durban has been plagued by a break-in gang, specialising in high value liquor. They would strike in the early hours of the morning after carefully selecting their targets. They have been active all over the Durban area,” said ET Rapid Response South Coast managing member, Tony Lokker.

On Wednesday, 9 January the gang hit Amanzimtoti, fortunately they could not breach the front door and got away empty-handed.

ET’s tactical response team met with the Community Crime Prevention Organisation (CCPO), Toti Crime Prevention and investigators from Excellerate to gather intelligence on the gang. On Friday they had a breakthrough when one suspect was arrested on the Bluff by the SAPS task force.

On Monday night, 14 January, in a joint operation between ET, the CCPO, Brighton Beach SAPS’ field unit, Metro Police K9 and Excellerate investigators, multiple locations in KwaMashu were raided. Two more suspects were apprehended and one of the vehicles used in the commissioning of a Bluff break-in was also recovered. House breaking implements were also seized, as well as a Plasma TV.

“These are more good results due to teamwork among all the agencies and it sends out a strong message to would-be criminals who target the Durban South area that we will hunt you down,” said Lokker.
