Bluff to benefit from 2019 plans

Ward councillor JP Prinsloo and his team are keen to tackle the year at full steam.

THE year 2019 brings hopes for change and improvement in Bluff’s ward 66, as the groundwork laid in the last year should propel the area in the next 12 months.

Through the planning and groundwork laid in 2018, and with the assistance of the ward 66 committee and various subcommittees, Prinsloo reflected on various improvements and developments across the Bluff in 2018. Some of the projects and activities they will focus on this year includes improving the verge cutting and weed spraying service delivery by the parks department, while also ensuring street lights are operational.

“We aim for a cleaner Bluff and want to clamp down on illegal buildings and slum houses, as well as the development of the Bluff Youth Centre and implementing the next phase of the beach upgrades,” said Prinsloo.
He aims to improve the community’s brand as the best holiday and whaling destination, redevelop the natural areas and parks, particularly Ivernia and King Fisher Park. He eluded to further upgrades of the road infrastructure and signage including new sidewalks, road signage and bus shelters.

The Brighton Road social housing project commences this year as well as establishing the Operation Sukuma Sakhe within ward 66. The housing project located at the old convent on the corner of Brighton Road and Donnelly Road will make provision for homes for the poor.

ronmental Park is on the cards, along with improvements to the infrastructure at local sports clubs, establishment of the Bluff improvement precinct, upgrade and rehabilitation of Tara Road and hosting the third annual Welcoming the Whales Festival.
“These are only a few of our top priorities moving into 2019. We have a lot to do to ensure we achieve the full potential of the Bluff but if as a community we work together, we will all be able to reap the benefits from our hard work,” added the councillor.
