Matrics buoyed by success

With a pass rate of 99.3%, New Forest High School was the top performing school in its ward

New Forest High School’s (NFHS) class of 2018 is ready to grab the future with both hands, as they beamed with excitement at the release of their matric results on Friday, 4 January.
The school’s top pupil was Yolanda Hadebe with an average of 85 %, while scoring distinctions in all seven subjects was Siphelele Malembe with an average of 83.5%.

Previous head-boy, Njabulo Qumbisa and head-girl Andiswa Njakazi continued to make their school proud by achieving commendable results and both obtaining distinctions. Qumbisa hopes to further his studies at the University of KwaZulu-Natal and advises the next group of matriculants to always be on top of their game by prioritising time management. Aspiring lawyer Njakazi looks forward to the future and is thankful for all she learnt during her time in high school, as it has played a pivotal role in ensuring a fruitful future.

Scooping four distinctions was a proud Andiswa Mthembu who hopes to study medicine at the University of Cape Town and continue to make her mother and grandmother proud. “I’m very happy with my results and even happier at the prospect of starting a new chapter of my life while working towards my dream of becoming a neurologist. My mom has been such a pillar of strength for me, supporting me both in my studies as well as ensuring I have everything I need, she said. Mthembu’s mother, Ayanda Hlongwa and grandmother Nompumelelo Hlongwa were overjoyed at her achievement, expressing that they owe it all to God’s grace.

NFHS principal Cherie Pet said the school is very proud of its class of 2018. “With a pass rate of 99.3%, NFHS was the top performing school in its ward. We congratulate the class and the teachers of 2018 on a very successful year. We wish our class of 2018 all the best as they move into the next phase of their lives, especially all those who are entering tertiary institutions to continue their studies. We trust the skills, knowledge, work ethic and values they learnt at NFHS will stand them in good stead in the future. As was said in our final assembly, if you are guided by the motto of ‘Honor ante Honores’ and the values of respect, commitment, compassion and integrity, we believe you will make a success of whatever career path you choose to travel,” said Pet.
