Swoop sees drugs, guns seized in Wentworth

The operation continued in an attempt to rid the area of illegal firearms and the drug trade.

COCAINE, heroin, firearms and stolen property including cellphones were confiscated in a series of arrests and raids in Wentworth during intelligence drive operations by the provincial task team, drug and firearm unit and Wentworth police in the early hours of Sunday morning, 18 November.
The task team members showed zero tolerance towards gangsterism, drugs and unlicensed firearms as they made several arrests after searching council flats, where various drugs were seized.

The first arrest was in Pascal Place, where a plastic packet with cocaine powder as well as 5,400 pink and white capsules suspected to be heroin, was seized. The police officers moved to a second target in Hime Street, where they arrested a second man found in possession of several cellphones which were suspected to be stolen.
He was charged for possession of suspected stolen property. On further investigation, it was established he was sought by police for other crimes.

A third man was caught in Woodville Road and another was arrested for possession of cocaine. Two more flats in Alabama Road were searched, where two men were arrested for dealing in drugs, rock cocaine and dagga. The police officers seized 330 small clear packets containing dagga, which had been in their possession.
The operation continued in an attempt to rid the area of illegal firearms and the drug trade.
“While at Woodville Road, information was gathered of criminal activities in one of the flats in the area. Police officers followed the information which lead to the recovery of three 9mm pistols, ammunition and heroin tablets. No-one was arrested but the investigation is ongoing,” said provincial police spokesman Lieutenant Colonel Thulani Zwane.
All five suspects aged between 20 and 40 were arrested and were due to appear in the Wentworth Magistrate’s Court on Monday, 19 November.
