Fun 80s throwback for Sunflower celebration

Funds raised from the event will enable the Sunflower Fund to create awareness and education about blood stem cell donation

THE Sunflower Fund in KZN ended off the year with a bang at its last organised charity event, the annual Sunflower Celebration ‘Cocktails & Casino’ 80’s Throwback Party on Friday, 9 November at Greyville Convention Centre’s Sea Cottage Room.

Not only was it a night of glamour and colour but it raised funds for the all-important cause of the Sunflower Fund, which aims to grow the bone-marrow registry.

Fabulous food and fun festivities was the order of the night, compered by well-known media personality, David Yapp.

Guests were treated to sumptuous sparkling wine and a delectable two-course meal, decadent dessert and indulgent gifts for all the women, live music and fun casino games. DJ Deon ‘Rascal’ turned out all the nostalgic pop 80’s music that had guests glued to the dance floor.

It was a colourful and vibrant crowd as guests donned their 80’s inspired outfits hoping to clinch the ‘best bressed man and woman’ prizes. Lucky guests also walked away with an impressive assortment of prizes including special rewards for those who excelled at the casino tables. A noteworthy R11,300 was raised from the auction alone on the night. There were smiles all round and guests were in great spirits following another successful event.

Funds raised from the event will enable the Sunflower Fund to create awareness and education about blood stem cell donation, recruit more blood stem cell donors, grow the patient support fund and maintain a registry of committed donors. This in turn means greater hope of life for patients who are diagnosed with life-threatening blood diseases and who are in need of a blood stem cell transplant from a matching unrelated donor.
