Dance outreach aims to stretch youth’s creativity

CCCT has been based at its Austerville Drive premises for several years

“IT’S about creating a space to allow a child to feel a sense of belonging,” said the founder, Jade Ribeiro of dance organisation, City Celebration Charitable Trust (CCCT) which operates at the Blue Roof Wellness Centre in Wentworth.
CCCT has been based at its Austerville Drive premises for several years, providing opportunities for the youth to express themselves, teaching through dance and interpreting life issues experienced by the youth through the creative arts.

Jade and four other creatives first reached out to the community and its children in 2013. “We started the organisation in 2013 with the mindset of using dance to unify the children across all races, cultures and backgrounds. Our dream is to reach out to the children, family and finally the community,” said Ribeiro.
Besides dance, the group also encourages other forms of creativity including poetry, music, and art. “We offer a free service for children from grade R up to adults. Anyone who wants to learn and socialise with a great group of people is welcome. We are exploring what I call dance therapy, where we tackle life issues such as body image or bullying through dance. This is a safe place,” she added.

CCCT has taken its first group to competition level, when they participated in a dance festival earlier this year. “We do try to push and challenge the children, especially if dance is something they want to pursue. We try to uplift them to their utmost best,” said Ribeiro.
The group wants to make Durban aware of their services and of what they aim to achieve within communities. Call Jade Ribeiro on 083-299-5059.
