Fairvale pupils brings snooker back to life

The next fundraiser will be a dance held on Saturday, 3 November.

A GROUP of Fairvale Secondary pupils is breathing life back into the gentleman’s game of snooker, thanks to the guidance and coaching by Denzil Brooks and Dane Naicker from the Dane Naiker Snooker Academy established at the school.
The academy has been around for years but was only recently revived with renewed interest from the young boys ranging from grades 8 to 11.

“We restarted this club in June because we wanted to give these children an opportunity to be part of a club or team. It is a ploy to get the children off the streets and put a cue in their hands,” said Brooks.
The pupils practise every Monday and Wednesdays after school and set up their own tables before playing. The game has taught them responsibility, discipline and patience. While they are still learning the ropes, they hope to one day participate competitively against other clubs or schools.
