Durban snake infographic to dispel myths

The ASI team dedicates every minute to educating communities about snake bites and the dos and don'ts

THERE are many myths around the snakes that inhabit Durban and their bites.

These will soon be dispelled by an African Snakebite Institute (ASI) campaign centred around an informative infographic.

Digital marketing manager for ASI, Tyrone Ping said: “Due to the sensationalism and a large amount of misinformation regarding snakes and snakebites in Southern Africa doing the rounds on social media and through a few non-credible organisations, the ASI team dedicates every minute to educating communities about snake bites and the dos and don’ts,” said Ping.

The ASI has an infographic which should help to dispel these misconceptions. The infographic was created by Africa’s most renowned herpetologist Johan Marais who is the auther of numerous best-selling reptile books including ‘The Complete Guide To Snakes Of Southern Africa’.

“Our mission is to provide factual and correct information to the public and dispel many of these myths and fictitious stories related to snakes which seem to get viral status. This infographic is available to download for free as a poster on www.africansnakebiteinstitute.com,” he said.
