The crash, on the shoulder of the N2, resulted in the partial closure of the southbound carriageway as an aeromedical helicopter landed on the freeway to airlift the severely injured passenger entrapped in the wreckage.
Rescue Care paramedics treated the injured truck driver, while Durban fire department and rescue officials worked to free his entrapped passenger.

The N2 southbound was reduced to one lane, but traffic flow should resolve shortly once all the lanes re-open.
“The driver sustained moderate injuries and was stabilised by paramedics before being taken to hospital. The traffic is currently severely affected with only the right-hand lane open for traffic to pass,” said Rescue Care’s Garrith Jamieson.
Motorists were urged not to rubber-neck when passing the accident scene, as traffic has been disrupted and slowed unnecessarily on both the north and southbound carriageways.
The cause of the accident is unknown.
