UPDATE: Route announced for planned EFF march

Motorists are encouraged to take note of the affected roads in the planned march.

Tomorrow EFF protestors will gather from 11.30am on the vacant piece of land on the corner of Grays Inn Road and Tara Road.

Another meeting was held on Tuesday, 21 August with Brighton Beach SAPS to provide clarity on the march proceedings to ensure that the correct information has been made available to the public. “All requirements for the march have been met and a permit has been issued by Metro police,” Cllr JP Prinsloo

The following roads will be affected on the day of the march: Grays Inn Road, Brighton Road, Doon Road, Bluff Road and Old Mission road.

The march will start promptly at 12pm and end at 2:30pm. “The permit approved by Metro police only allows for the protesters to march for a maximum of one hour,” added Cllr Prinsloo.

No stops will be allowed along the route. The permit issued allows 200 protesters to participate in the march. No gathering will be allowed after the memorandum has been handed over and protesters must disperse after this has taken place.

The planned route
Metro police and SAPS will be present during the entire march and police will man each of the main intersections along the route. Public order police (POP) will also be present and monitor the entire march.

“I urge residents to remain calm and level-headed, and not to fuel or escalate tensions between protesters and residents during the protest.  All people have a right to protest and law enforcement agencies will ensure the safety of all residents and businesses during the process,” he added.
