Residents’ clean-up an example to others

The clean-up group wants cleanliness to be the first thing people see when they enter the community

RESIDENTS of Victor Lawler Road encourage Wentworth residents to take ownership of their area and get involved in cleaning their community.
Armed with their own tools, the Victor Lawler residents took to the road and began cleaning up, picking up litter, trimming trees and raking verges.
“Litter in communities is an environmental, health and safety hazard. Litter affects physical health, can cause fires, smelly odours, block stormwater drains, place children at risk, provide a breeding ground for insects and rodents, destroy bird and plant life and create a negative image in the community,” said resident, Gary Stevens.

The clean-up group wants cleanliness to be the first thing people see when they enter the community and they urge residents to keep their verges and pavements clean in their areas. “Adopt a spot and make that area visually appealing with creative landscaping by using colourful plants and shrubs, and contribute to the beautification of your street,” he added.
