VIDEO: Honour Madiba’s legacy with good deeds

A good head and good heart are always a formidable combination. But when you add to that a literate tongue or pen, then you have something very special - Nelson Mandela

This year marks Nelson Mandela’s centenarian year on 18 July and to celebrate we can do small things in our community and hopefully as the day passes we will continue performing the good deeds.

But what can you do?

CLEAN UP: IF you live near the beach or around a park that is littered, take a small bag with you (no plastic) and take a walk. Pick up any waste that you can find and clean up your area. Do it every time you visit the places and make it a habit.

Aphelele Maquthu from DSW does his bit by picking up plastic waste off the sandy beach banks.

VOLUNTEER: Visit your local children homes, animal centres or shelters or soup kitchens and give your time to those who are in need of love and kindness.

Volunteers, Jabu Cele and Ricky Porter hand out food to the hungry people at Bluff Hope Centre.

SPREAD LOVE: Sometime all a person needs to hear is that they matter. Call someone you think needs to be cheered up, you might save them. Visit a relative or a friend. Say hello to a stranger or even ask the cashier if they are okay. It’s the little things that make the biggest difference.

No matter what you choose to do, make it count and make it worthwhile.
