Wentworth man drives free fitness training project

His dream is to one day be able to introduce this project into schools and change the mindset of the youth.

A FITNESS movement in Wentworth is shaking the community and successfully changing the lives of the followers of Pow-A-House.
The free and social outdoor fitness regime was founded by clothing designer Ryan Francis, who decided a year ago that he needed to make a change in his life, not only for himself but to find a way to lead by example for his friends, family, children and his community.
“I needed to change the way I looked at life and the way I and we all treat it and to try maybe stop looking for the perfect role model in society. I want to show people you can be the role model you have been looking for. So I decided to train myself as well as adopt a healthier way of life that has now become my lifestyle while also impacting others,” said Francis.

Ryan’s transformation is seen as a motivation for those who attend Pow-A-House

A year ago, an overweight Ryan set about successfully transforming his body into a sculpted and toned example of what can be achieved. Now he offers a public health service by guiding participants through a rigorous training programme in an open public space in Wentworth’s Bennie Geldenhuys Road.

His dream is to one day be able to introduce this project into schools and change the mindset of the youth. “We need to combat the problem of obesity in our youth and educating them at a young age is vital for them to maintain a good, flexible and healthy lifestyle,” he added.
He encourages residents of the entire South Durban Basin to go and see what Pow-A-House is about and join in.

“We are a good mix of people – young and old, male and female. There is no discrimination, just a good work-out to sweat your problems away,” he added.

The aim of the movement is to bring awareness of the importance of maintaining a healthy lifestyle with the main goal being to keep fit. Types of exercise offered are cross training, 5km walk/run, and grid training. Every week presents different routines and this assists in keeping the participants fired up and wanting more.

Ryan has honed his passion for fitness while becoming a model for healthy eating and a healthy mind.
The free public classes are held every evening Monday to Wednesday from 6pm to 7pm and again on Saturday mornings from 6am to 7am in Bennie Geldenhuis Road, Wentworth.
