Join Fisherfolk Walk and march in solidarity

Join the SDCEA this Saturday as fishing communities get together and walk in solidarity to say 'protect our ocean'.

The South Durban Community Environmental Alliance (SDCEA) invites the fishing community to participate in a Fisherfolk Walk this Saturday, 23 June along Durban’s Beachfront Promenade to take a stand against the proposed offshore oil and gas drilling that is set to take place on the coast of KZN.

The walk will commence at 8:30am from Snake Park and walkers will stroll towards Ushaka.

The walk will also highlight the issue of denying access to fisherfolk on the Beachfront and North Piers.

KZN is renowned for its beautiful beaches which are also a habitat for a multitude of marine life that makes the ocean a diverse life-giving force. A healthy marine ecosystem is critically important to marine life and to the coastal communities whose economies rely on tourism, fishing and recreational activities.

Allowing exploitive extractive industries like Sasol and Eni to violate the ocean will drastically compromise the livelihoods of people as well destroy the beauty and tranquility of the beautiful life-giving force, which is the ocean.

Join the SDCEA this Saturday as fishing communities get together and walk in solidarity to say ‘protect our ocean’. Families are welcomed as this walk is open to all who love the ocean. Those attending are urged to wear red.
