Sardine fever hits South Coast

Everyone including surfers are urged to stay out of the water.

A sardine frenzy hit the lower South Coast on Sunday, 17 July (Father’s Day), reported the South Coast Herald.

All the sharks nets have been removed from Amanzimtoti beaches and beach-goers have been warned to stay out of the water.

“All the shark nets from Isipingo to lower south have been removed as there is plenty of sardine action happening at Pennington now (10.30am on Monday, 18 July),” said acting beach manager, Jayce Govender.

“At the moment there are thousands of sharks in the water, including Zambesi, tiger and bronze wailer sharks. Everyone, including surfers, are urged to stay out of the water.”
