ELECTRICITY cables worth more than R1.5-million was confiscated yesterday (Tuesday, 29 May) by Metro Police during a sting operation at a Clairwood scrapyard.
After receiving a tip-off, three cable drum with hundreds of metres of cable were found and confiscated from a Clairwood scrapyard.
One person was arrested and two others were taken in for questioning. Investigations are ongoing.

Metro Police Senior Superintendent Parboo Sewpersad said: “Metro Police commends the men for the quick action in apprehending
suspects.

A case was opened at Montclair police station. Cable theft is a serious crime which costs the city millions each year. The cables are usually stripped and sold to scrap metal dealers or sold to unscrupulous people who connect electricity illegally.”
The city appeals to the public to report cable theft to 031-311-9611 during office hours or to the nearest police station.
