Skirmishes turn violent in Montclair

One man was stabbed in the buttocks and chest

MONTCLAIR police were called out to more assault scenes in the last week, with both turning violent on Thursday, 17 May and Saturday 19 May.
On Thursday at about 8pm, a stabbing occurred in Wingate Road at about 8pm between taxi drivers. One man was stabbed in the buttocks and chest with a knife and his friend was also stabbed by a man who allegedly insulted them before he fled the scene.
The knife-wielding man was soon arrested and detained by Montclair SAPS.

In another assault, a man was purchasing a meal when he was approached by another man who accused him of stealing his cellphone. Confused, he showed the man his cellphone and explained he had bought it in Springfield Park. “The accuser followed the man and assaulted him with a broomstick, which led to a fight,” said Capt Vijiam. The man kept on insisting the phone had been stolen and so protested to others in the street, who soon got involved in the assault.

“A friend of the victim came to his rescue, not before being robbed by his accuser, who took the phone and cash,” added Capt Vijiam. Montclair crime prevention officers who were on patrol responded to the incident and soon arrested the criminal. Because he was a juvenile, he was released into his guardian’s custody.
