Glebelands hostel shooter’s escape from justice ends in arrest

He appeared in Umlazi Magistrates Court on Friday, 25 May on a charge of attempted murder.

A 38-YEAR-old man was arrested on Wednesday morning, 23 May for an attempted murder at Bayhead last year.
In the early hours of Wednesday, members of the national invention unit deployed at Glebelands hostel conducted an intelligence-driven operation at Maydon Wharf and Bayhead in connection with the attempted murder.

On 31 August 2017, a 45-year-old man was at Block P in Glebelands hostel when he was shot. He sustained gunshots wounds to the head, shoulder and abdomen. The injured man sought assistance from police officers in the vicinity, who called an ambulance to take him to hospital for medical attention.

The shooter fled the scene and has been on the run since then.

The team of police officials’ breakthrough came when they arrested him while he was at his place of employment in Bayhead. He appeared in Umlazi Magistrates Court on Friday, 25 May on a charge of attempted murder.
