Bluff detective commended for securing 25 year murder conviction

Detective Grobler described the violence of the attack as horrendous.

DHAYALAN Pillay (33) was sentenced to 25 years of imprisonment for the murder of his ex-girlfriend, Annelene Pillay on Monday, 7 May.

On 29 November 2016, Pillay tracked down his 28-year-old former girlfriend at her workplace in South Coast Road, Mobeni via a tracking company and disguised himself as an employee to gain access to the premises.

“He had sourced an unlicensed firearm and waited for her in the parking lot, where he fired five shots at her, including a fatal shot to the head. Brighton Beach lead detective, Warrant Officer Gerhard Grobler opposed bail from the outset,” said Brighton Beach SAPS spokesman, Capt Louise Le Roux.

Detective Grobler described the violence of the attack as horrendous.

“Pillay’s well thought through and executed plan showed his intentions to end Annelene’s right to live. I am pleased with the sentence imposed on the accused, which includes 20 years’ direct imprisonment for premeditated murder, and five years for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition. He was also found unfit to possess a firearm,” he added.

The station management at Brighton Beach SAPS acknowledged W/O Grobler’s thorough investigation as well as his flawless bail opposition applications, which ensured the accused’s presence before court and which secured the conviction imposed for the violent murder of Annelene Pillay.
