Man stabbed to death within minutes of unrelated shooting in Durban’s Wentworth

It was a busy Monday (30 April) for Wentworth SAPS who attended a murder and attempted murder that happened minutes apart in different parts of Wentworth.

At about 12.20 a fight turned fatal when a 23 year old man was sta bbed to death along Alabama Road. “It is alleged that the victim was fighting with a 20 year old man and chased after him with a kinfe. The man pulled out an okapi and stabbed him in the chest,” said Wentworth SAPS spokesman, Capt Mbuso Gumede. A teenager who witnessed the attack, rushed to the scene to assists the deceased who was losing a lot of blood.
The victim  was taken to wentworth hospital by a motorist who was driving past but died a few minutes after arrival to hospital.
The knife used was seized and the suspect arrested for murder.
In Major Calvert at 12.30pm, a man was arrested for attempted murder when he shot a 35-year-old man.
Wentworth SAPS were patrolling the area when they were directed by residents to shooting scene.

The members of Crime Prevention were patrolling when they received a complaint of a  shooting from an informant . “When the members arrived at the scene they saw a group of flat residents shouting and directing the police to the scene behind Major the man was lying on the floor with gunshot wound to his right thigh, unconscious and bleeding extensively,” said Cap Gumede. The mother of the victim gave the victim details and one empty cartridge was found next to the victim, and few metres away a live 9 9mm ammo was found.
 The ambulance arrived and the victim taken to wentworth hospital. Four other empty cartrigdes were found in Hime street along the road side.
The shooter was arrested a hour later.
