Metro Police woman murdered, man stabbed in one day at Jacobs hostel 

We are trying hard to eradicate the crimes

A MURDER and a stabbing at the infamous SJ Smith Hostel in Jacobs kept Montclair SAPS busy on Sunday, 18 March.
The first call police attended to was just after midnight, when a shooting was reported at the hostel.
On their arrival they found a man had been shot in the leg and a woman who was already certified dead by paramedics at the scene. “She was shot in the stomach which caused her death. She was identified as a Metro Police member who was off duty at the time of the incident,” said Montclair SAPS communication officer, capt Dereck Vijiam.

Later that night at about 5pm, an argument over cleaning chores broke out between two roommates at the hostel. The argument – over cleaning and scrubbing the bathroom –  turned violent and the two began to scuffle. One of the men produced a knife and stabbed the victim in his right hand, causing an open wound. He was rushed to hospital.

Capt Vijiam said police are working to reduce crime at SJ Smith Hostel. “We continuously patrol the area and the Crime Prevention Unit are always doing raids at the hostel. We are trying hard to eradicate the crimes,” he said.
