Wentworth woman gets 10 year suspended sentence for boyfriend’s death

Fynn had been stabbed by his girlfriend inside his house

A WENTWORTH woman was found guilty and sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment which five years are suspended on Wednesday, 14 March for the 2017 death of her boyfriend, Keenan Fynn.

On 29 January 2017, the woman was arrested when a neighbour heard suspicious noises coming from Fynn’s home which prompted him to contact Wentworth police.

The neighbour-turned-informant told Wentworth police he had heard a car park outside and the sound of doors banging. Minutes later, he heard more noise coming from the outside building. When he went to investigate, he found the man stumbling down the stairs, bleeding profusely.

“He eventually fell on the stairs. Family members of the victim rushed him to hospital but he died on arrival,” said Wentworth SAPS communications officer, Cpt Mbuso Gumede.

Fynn had been stabbed by his girlfriend inside the house in Genoa Road at about 1.30am.

While the woman was arrested and charged with murder, in court, she pleaded guilty to culpable homicide.

The case was postponed on numerous occasions and the investigating officer Detective Const Mhlongo opposed bail, which resulted in the woman remaining in Westville prison.

“She was sentenced to 10 years’ imprisonment, which is wholly suspended for five years on condition she is not convicted of attempted murder or culpable homicide. The accused is also deemed unfit to possess a firearm in terms of Section 103 of the Firearm Act 60 of 2000, ” said Capt Gumede.
