UPDATE: #PowerOutage Electricity has been restored to all Durban suburbs

Technicians are still working to repair an unrelated fault in Hillcrest and Waterfall areas

Electricity has been restored to all Durban suburbs which were affected by the explosion at the Klaarwater major substation this morning, (Wednesday, 14 March).

Some 50% of the city’s suburbs were left without electricity following the explosion and fire at the substation just after 10.30am today.

Ethekwini Municipality clarified however, that there is an electricity outage in the Hillcrest and Waterfall areas which is unrelated to the Klaarwater explosion this morning. Technicians are still working to repair a fault in those areas.

“Any customers who are not part of Hillcrest and Waterfall and who are still without electricity must check their earth leakage units in case these have tripped, or they can log an individual fault at our electricity contact centre on 080-311-1111. “

The city also reiterated its appeal to residents not to circulate unverified information on social media. If residents are concerned about safety in their area, they can call the emergency number on 031-361-0000.
