US talent showcase call-up gives Montclair teen faith in reaching her dreams

Performing is my passion and dream since I was young

RIDING on the coat-tails of her good faith and great talent, Mowat Park matric pupil Faith Mathabela has been invited by international talent scout, Kim Meyers to join her and other chosen ones from across the world to perform on stage in America in July.
The 18-year-old drama pupil said it is a dream come true for her to be part of the Applause Rising Talent Showcase (ARTS), as this adventure will open up many doors for her.
Receiving the invite has put gears in motion for her to be the best she can possibly be. “Before the invite, I was among thousands of others auditioning in Johannesburg for Kim Myers and freelance casting director, Rhavynn Drummer who is known for her work in Tyler Perry productions. Soon after, I got the invite and I have been in preparations for July.

Ever since primary school, Mathabela took part in every school play she auditioned for. “This is my passion and since I was young, I knew what I wanted and focused on that goal. My goal and passions are greatly supported especially by my drama teacher, Mrs Herd who has encouraged me to continue my path. She has helped build my confidence and taught me to not take criticism personally, rather turn it into something you can better yourself and craft with,” she said.
The opportunity also introduces the possibility of a scholarship to study in an American art college, which is the ultimate goal Mathebela is aiming for. “I would like to study communication science as well as acting since I am an aspiring artist,” she said.

However, to get to America she has to raise R75,000 excluding airfares and food. “It may be a lot of money but I have faith that all will fall into place for me. It would be great if I received some help from the community. In the future when I get my break and become successful, I will come home and give back to the same communities which helped me today to realise my dream. If one makes it – we all make it,” she added.
She advises the youth to always stick to their goals and keep chasing and working towards them. “Be passionate, take risks and use every experience you get, good or bad, as a lesson,” she said.
