Stainbank WI hears about audiology

Thoughts are with those members who are unwell at the moment. Get well soon.

STAINBANK Women’s Institute (SWI) president Arlene Greenfield welcomed all members and visitors to the New Year.

What a shame that many more members could not join the first meeting of the year.

They are missed and SWI hopes to see them all next month. Unfortunately SWI received a resignation from very long-time member Gladys Knapp who is relocating to the Bluff. It is hoped she will manage to join the institute again soon.

The minutes were taken as read and Lynne Graham assisted with the finance as Linda was away. Members were reminded that all subs were due. The president thanked all members for the great support received at the Christmas party.

The yearly booklets will be given out next month. Do not forget the raffles for the year, three from each member. The charity this month is for the animals. It is hoped this will be well supported as there are so many abandoned animals locally.

After a delicious tea, an interesting talk was given by Louisa Mann, who is an audiologist. She gave real insight into the many problems of hearing and how to control the problem. Afterwards, a short but informative talk followed by Barney Barnard on the use of the many different mobile phones available on the market. Many thanks to the speakers.

Executive member Maureen Lavis reminded everyone about the group meeting to be held at the Woodlands WI and advised everyone about the competitions. She expressed her hopes to receive an entry from every member.

SWI was also reminded about Congress later this year, as it will be the 90th birthday.

It was then time for birthdays and anniversaries. Best wishes to all. The swindle, R40 club and raffles were drawn and the competition results made known. The meeting closed with the WI prayer and a reminder to all to stay safe and secure. SWI hopes to see every member at next month’s meeting.

Competition results: Home produce: First Aileen Wiggell, second Koulla Tsourtis. Craft: First Aileen Wiggell. Handicraft: First Aileen Wiggell. Total: First Aileen Wiggell, second Phyllis Parsonage, third Koulla Tsourtis.

What a wonderful surprise it would be if many of other members entered the competitions.
