R120,000 heroin drug bust made in Umlazi

Patrolling Metro Police special task team unit noticed a suspicious grey Mercedes...

Police intercepted 4,800 heroin capsules with a street value of R120,000 in Umlazi yesterday (Tuesday, 13 February).

At about 8.30am, the patrolling Metro Police special task team unit noticed a suspicious grey Mercedes parked on Mangosuthu Highway.

While they turned around to investigate further, the car disappeared.

The Metro Police members’ hope of finding the Mercedes paid off, when they proceeded down Mangosuthu Highway and approached the V section robots. There they noticed the same grey Mercedes and stopped it.

On investigating and questioning the driver, they discovered he had a licensed firearm. On a further search of the car, they discovered a blue plastic bag containing 4,800 heroin tablets with a street value of R120,000 under the seat.

A 31-year-old man was arrested  and detained at Umlazi for dealing in heroin.

Acting Cluster Commander of Ethekwini Outer South, Brigadier MVP Mgobohozi congratulated the Metro special project team on their excellent work. “I commend the Metro Special Task team on this excellent arrest. The police are committed to removing drugs from Umlazi.”
