Yellowwood Park water drive collects over 4,000 litres for Cape Town
The response has been overwhelming
MORE than 4,000 litres of water was collected by the Yellowwood Park community for an initiative started by Nadene Lotz and Clive Smith from Yellowwood Park Sports Club.
Communities around South Africa have been collecting water and starting initiatives in aid of Cape Town’s water crisis, which has made the news over the possible threat of Day Zero, a day when all the taps in the city will run dry owing to the protracted drought.
Even while loading the water onto a the Gift of the Givers Foundation truck which collected and transported it on Friday, 9 February, people were still delivering truckloads of water to the club. “The response has been overwhelming and we have been inundated with phone calls from people who wanted to help out. Even those who had nothing gave us their last R100 to buy water,” said Lotz.

Both Lotz and Smith thanked all those who have contributed to the initiative, as well as the Yellowwood Post Office, Woodlands Pre-Primary School and Yellowwood Park Spar for acting as drop-off points. “We all came together as a community and proved we are a caring bunch of people,” added Lotz.
