Mobeni hijackers go on weekend spree

It was a busy weekend for the cops as criminals went on a hijacking spree

MONTCLAIR SAPS has been kept busy as they worked to combat hijackers in Mobeni last weekend.
On Friday, 26 January at about 6.50pm, a taxi with a full load of passengers was stopped by three unknown men at the South Coast Road on-ramp to Himalayas Road.
One of the men grabbed the driver’s neck, which caused the vehicle to stall. “He fought with them and he managed to get the key away from the hijackers. They only got away with R500 in cash,” added Montclair SAPS communication officer, Capt Dereck Vijiam.

The next day, Montclair police officers responded to a hijacking at a petrol station in Mobeni. At about 5pm, a motorist was filling petrol. While waiting for his change, two men approached him at gunpoint.
They demanded his red Gold 5 and forced him out of the car. They searched him and took his belongings before jumping into the vehicle and driving off.

In Clairwood a motorist was shot twice in the buttocks in the early hours of Sunday morning, 28 January. While the motorist was seated in his car parked on Trent Road, a man walked past before he turned around, produced a firearm and shot the driver.
The shooter got into the driver’s seat and drove off after pushing the shot man out.
