UPDATE: Pregnant woman hijacked by Bluff jewellery store heist gang goes into labour

Informers have been activated and the search for the armed thieves continues.

A PREGNANT woman went into labour following yesterday’s ordeal, when the armed gunmen who robbed at a Bluff mall jewellery store, hijacked her car for use as a getaway vehicle.

Brighton Beach SAPS spokesman Capt Louise Le Roux said at about 2pm, an armed man forced his way into a jewellery store in Bluff Towers and was soon followed by another six men.
“Firearms and hammers were produced and the display cabinets were smashed and jewellery taken,” she added. A fellow tenant heard the glass cabinets being smashed and went to investigate just as the armed men were exiting the store.

When they fired shots at him, he returned fire. As the gunmen fled the scene, they continued to shoot but dropping some of the stolen items in their haste. The men made their way to the basement parking lot and first tried to hijack a man and his child but failed.
They noticed a pregnant woman parked in the parking lot and hijacked and kidnapped her, later abandoning both the woman and her car in Durban Central.
When police members found her and the vehicle, they returned her to the scene of the crime, where she went into labour. Paramedics arrived on scene to assist her.
Brighton Beach SAPS, Metro K9 Unit and the police dog unit responded to the scene. Informers have been activated and the search for the armed thieves continues.
