Merebank man dies after being burnt in house fire

The 29-year-old man was rushed to hospital for burns on his arms and chest

A MEREBANK man has died in hospital as a result of severe burns to his arms and chest in a house fire.

On Monday, 22 January Wentworth SAPS, the fire department and paramedics rushed to the scene on Lakhimpur Road where they found a wooden house on fire.

The fire was doused out and a 29-year-old man was rushed to hospital for burns on his arms and chest.

The man managed to pull himself out of the burning structure and get to the neighbouring house on the property. “The owner of the house woke up to the sound of the injured man banging on his door. When he opened the door, he saw the man on the floor, struggling to walk,” said Wentworth SAPS communication officer, Capt Mbuso Gumede.

He was transported to King Edward VIII Hospital where he died that night. The cause of fire is unknown. The police are investigating an inquest.
