Bluff beach upgrade finally gets underway

The project is set to be completed within three months

IT has been an uphill battle for five years but the first phase of the Bluff beach upgrades finally got underway on Thursday, 18 Janaury.
Ward 66 councillor, JP Prinsloo made a committment since his election in 2016 that the Bluff beach upgrades would be one of his top priorities.
“Since August 2106 I have held multiple meetings with various municipal officials, made numerous calls and camped outside many official’s offices to ensure the Bluff beach upgrades are implemented,” he said.

The initial phase will ensure the rehabilitation and upgrade of the Anstey’s Beach dune. This is the first of multiple phases of the upgrade which are set to be implemented as set out in the Bluff beach upgrade plan which was presented to the Bluff community almost five years ago. Eventually after almost a year, with the assistance of the ward 66 committee, a member of the Democratic Alliance’s economic development and planning committee and Bluff Boardriders, they succeeded in the implementation of the first phase.

“This will include the restoration of the sand dune with heavy-duty sandbags, the installation of staircases and beach equipment. It also includes the replanting of dune vegetation which was lost due to erosion over time,” added Cllr Prinsloo.
The project is set to be completed within three months. Through the ward councillor’s office, a Bluff resident was employed as a community liaison officer to monitor the progress of the project and provide weekly updates. This will ensure the project goes according to schedule and is constructed to the highest quality.
“There is still a lot of work to be done before the entire beach upgrade is completed but my office and I will work tirelessly to ensure the project is completed in its entirety. Join the Bluff Community Notice Board Facebook page for more updates,” he said.
