Woman shot in head in Wentworth gunman’s shooting spree
A search for the gun proved fruitless.
A 27-year-old woman was rushed to hospital on Sunday morning, 3 November when she was struck by a stray bullet on Major Calvert and Woodville roads in Wentworth.
It is believed shots were indiscriminately fired at the flats at about 5am by a 33-year-old man.
The woman who sustained a gunshot wound to her head was stabilised at hospital and received stitches.

Members of the Durban Flying Squad who were on duty at the time, heard the shots and walked up to the flats. Sergeant Ogle saw the shooter and warned him to stop but he fired another shot before running away. The officer chased the man until he disappeared into the Woodville Road flats.
“The officers searched for him, to no avail. They contacted informers which led to the arrest of the man. He was brought to the police station,” said Wentworth SAPS communication officer, Capt Mbuso Gumede. A search for the gun proved fruitless.
He was detained for attempted murder and for malicious damage to property.
