Cuttings Beach litter clearance gains ground

Warner Beach Preparatory's pupils tackled Cuttings and removed a remarkable 121 bags.

CLEAN Surf Project continues on its mission to rid Isipingo-Merebank straddling Cuttings Beach of the frightening amount of litter the once beautiful coastal stretch grew to be buried beneath.

The project is estimated to take years but the CSP team and volunteers push on every Saturday, getting one step closer to a blue flag status.

“We’re glad a few more companies are creating awareness getting involved with CSP and our projects,” said Denzil van der Westhuizen.

Warner Beach Preparatory’s pupils tackled Cuttings on Monday, 20 November and removed a remarkable 121 bags, Clean Surf Project thanks the local primary school and looks to give talks at all schools, whereby creating awareness and inspiring youngsters to tackle clean-ups.

CSP thanked Candice Harding on her amazing presentation regarding pollution, Warner Beach Prep’s pupils and staff.

“This Friday, 8 December, Durban Solid Waste (DSW) and Department of Environmental Affairs (DEA) are having a clean-up at Cuttings and four other beaches,” explained Denzil. “CSP will be present at Cuttings that day to assist.”
The day after, Saturday, 9 December CSP will lend a hand at the clean-up of the Amanzimtoti river beside the sport centre’s ground. Therefore, there will be no Cuttings Beach clean-up this Saturday as usual.

Lastly, Denzil paid his gratitude to Big Spar in Winklespruit who donated 200 gloves towards the clean-ups. Every contribution great or small aids the team in freeing the local beaches of litter.
