Security officer’s intervention nets Jacobs business burglar

The arrest of the outstanding suspects are imminent as informers have been activated.

FAST response by a patrolling security officer last Friday, 1 December led to the arrest of a robber and the recovery of stolen cell phones and cash taken in a Teakwood Road, Jacobs business robbery.
Security Force reaction unit officer Rudolf Schwartz was conducting his usual vehicle patrols when he noticed a suspicious white Tazz speed past him in Teakwood Road.
Bystanders in the area flagged down Schwartz about a theft had taken place on business a premises and gave a description of the criminal’s clothing. Armed with the description, he chased after the car and noticed a man running at high speed on the sidewalk. On pursuing the running man, he boxed him in with his vehicle and detained the man.

Soon afterwards, a Teakwood Road business owner arrived, saying he had been robbed by three unknown men at gunpoint. He positively identified the detained man as one of the assailants and a search of the revealed mobile devices and cash which had been taken in the business robbery.
Brighton Beach SAPS spokesman, Captain Louise Le Roux applauded Rudolf Schwartz on the arrest and recovery. Capt Le Roux added that business-related crimes within the area have increased as the festive season approaches. “We also acknowledge the bystanders’ involvement for providing the correct description of the perpetrator to the reaction unit officer, which once again proves that together we can achieve more,” she said.

The detained man was due to appear in court on Monday, 4 December to face a charge of business robbery.
