Montclair school’s marimba musicians give thanks for post-storm aid

Overwhelmed by the gracious gesture, the school sent its popular marimba band to entertain the bank staff with music and dance.

IN light of 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children campaign, Standard Bank hosted Montclair’s Ningizimu Special School on Wednesday, 22 November to not only bring awareness to the anti-violence drive but to also reach out and commit to helping pupils and teachers who were personally impacted by the devastating October storm.
Overwhelmed by the gracious gesture, the school sent its popular marimba band to entertain the bank staff with music and dance.

“For them to open up to us is amazing. We went to many companies in the hope of receiving some help from them to assist the 10 pupils and four teacher who were severely affected by the October storm. We tried raising funds ourselves but realised the problem was much bigger. So to thank the staff for their generosity, we gifted them with a performance by our talented marimba band. We also thank them for educating our pupils on 16 days of activism. I’m sure they learned some important lessons,” said acting deputy principal, Thandi Khanyile.

Standard Bank’s Noel Arjuna said staff members and customers pledged to contribute to the fundraising for the school. “We just wanted to help them in their time of need and we thank the teachers for showing so much care towards those who were affected in their school,” said Arjuna.
