Garden club gears up for Christmas

Don't forget to make your Christmas hat or cap with garden material for the Christmas party.

NATALIA Garden Club’s president Karolina Kotze opened the last meeting with a prayer of gratitude for residents’ safe keeping during the torrential storm on Tuesday, 10 October.

The club was very sad to lose a faithful and honorary member Joyce Huygens, who is now at Mothwa Haven in Clark Road.

Kamy Moodlev supplied information on the uses of various spices and also how to make a good curry.

Thank you to Nora Brown who supplied the prizes for the draws. The door prize was won by Shirley Shaw, the raffle was won by Karolina Kotze and 100 club was won by Jeanne Buitendag.

Members are reminded to return raffle lists for the Christmas cake draw which will take place at the Christmas party on Thursday, 7 December.

The club’s next meeting is on Thursday, 9 November at 9.30am at the Pigeon Club in Tara Road.

The decorative competition topic is entitled a Christmas wreath with plant material (no artificial decorations). The cultural competition topic is a croton stem, besides the other usual plant competitions. Naomi Stapersma will be the speaker which includes a slide show at the November meeting. The topic will be ‘The most beautiful moths in the world’.

The club wishes Phillip Yon and Veronica Crowle well for their birthdays in November.

To members who participate in the plant competitions, well done for your efforts. The awesome displays on the competitions tables prove you are promoting and encouraging the cultivation of plants, flowers, fruit and vegetables and advancing and improving the art of gardening and floral decoration. The club hopes to enrol more interested gardeners next year.

Club meetings take place on the second Thursday of each month. Natalia congratulates president Karolina and the committee on a job well done for their efforts in keeping the club running smoothly.
