Scholars robbed at gunpoint while walking home in Montclair

When walking in groups, you must not get lost in conversation.

SCHOOL children are warned to be alert when walking home from school and are urged to walk in groups following a recent attack on Monday, 16 October in Wingate Road, Montclair.
A pupil was walking with her friends in Wingate Road when they were approached by three men.
The unknown men threatened them and demanded their belongings. “One of the men produced a gun which he pointed at the girl and took her cellphone from her blazer pocket, while the other two walked among the other school children as if nothing was happening,” said Montclair SAPS communication officer, Capt Dereck Vijiam.

The teenagers were left traumatised by the experience but immediately reported it to Montclair SAPS and opened a case of armed robbery. “When walking in groups, you must not get lost in conversation. Don’t forget about your surroundings and the people who are in it. Stay vigilant and aware of anyone walking towards you. The criminal element is lurking with the element of surprise in their favour, which could be dangerous,” added Capt Vijiam.
