Durban N2 breakdown motorist robbed at knifepoint

If you do break down do not accept help from anybody except a uniformed police officer

Motorists are warned to be careful when they experience a breakdown, following the armed robbery of a woman who found herself at the roadside on the N2 just before the Umlazi offramp.
On Wednesday, 18 October at about 11.45am, a woman was travelling on the N2 southbound before the Umlazi off ramp when her vehicle broke down.

While waiting for assistance, she was approached by five men on foot. One produced a knife, threatening the woman while the other four scavenged in her car, taking her laptop, two cell phones and a watch before they fled the scene.
Montclair SAPS communication officer, Capt Dereck Vijiam advises motorists to remain in their car if they are faced with such a situation. “Call for emergency assistance and give them correct details so they can get to you quickly and easily. Let them know you have broken down and are vulnerable,” he said.

He also advises driver to not get out of the vehicle and to lock their doors, watch and wait for professional emergency assistance. Do not accept help from anybody except a uniformed police officer, Metro Police officer or other emergency personnel. Most major highways and roads are patrolled.
