‘Hijacked’ man gets life for ‘unfaithful’ girlfriend’s murder

Montclair SAPS commended W/O Naidoo for his efficient investigation which secured the good conviction

DETECTIVE Warrant Officer Rico Naidoo has solved yet another murder case which saw a 52-year-old sentenced to life imprisonment in Durban Regional Court on Thursday, 14 September.
On  22 July, Siphiwe Madondo reported to the Montclair SAPS that he had been hijacked and his 30-year-old girlfriend murdered by two unknown men.
Her body was dumped at the Montclair sports grounds. W/O Naidoo attended the scene and found many inconsistencies in Madondo’s witness account of how the murder and hijacking occurred.
Acting on his suspicions, W/O Naidoo arrested the 52-year-old and brought charges against him for the murder of his girlfriend, defeating the ends of justice and vehicle theft. Further investigations led to the recovery of an unlicensed firearm and ammunition.
On Thursday, 14 September, Madondo appeared in court where he pleaded guilty. He said he had murdered the woman in Philani Valley, Umlazi and dumped her at the grounds. He had hatched a plan to report the hijacking in the hope of covering his tracks. He committed the crime because he believed she was being unfaithful.
He received life imprisonment for murder, five years for defeating the ends of justice, five years for the theft of the vehicle, 10 years for possession of an unlicensed firearm and 10 years for possession of ammunition. He was also declared unfit to possess a firearm.
Montclair SAPS commended W/O Naidoo for his efficient investigation which secured the good conviction.
