Walk to help Bluffite’s MAD plan

Raise funds and get fit.

GET fit and Make A Difference (MAD) with Bluffite Sharon Lotz.

The MAD challenge, which was Sharon’s brainchild, aims to raise money to help children and families in need with groceries, meals, school uniforms and children’s birthday parties.

Sharon has already walked 152km through Scotland with Chris Jeeves and 92km in Croatia with Carol Tebbutt, Janet Offer and Karen Daniels to raise funds for Restmount Children’s Holiday Home, a home in Underberg that sponsors holidays for children who would otherwise would not have the opportunity.

Last year, Sharon again walked for charity among 12 Grosvenor Girls High School alumni of the class of 1979 who hiked 66km in Santorini.

Sharon began MAD in 2013, when she first decided to do a walk in Scotland. While planning her trip she realised it would be the perfect opportunity to raise funds for charity. And so, four years later it has morphed into a passion, which she hopes to involved the rest of her community, in.

The MAD Challenge sees every day people commit to walk, run, cycle or go take steps. After paying their entry fee, they choose how long they want to participate and what level they hope to achieve. In the running category, participants can choose the one month, three month, six month or one year challenge with the aim of walking 80km, 260km, 500km or 1,000km respectively.

She urges people to take up their own walks and raise money for people in need.
