Human trafficking threat outlined to Bluff school
Human trafficking has become a global scourge.
HUMAN trafficking awareness is paramount to the safety of children, warns Bluff Community Policing Forum chairman, Carl Knuaff.
“Human trafficking is a reality but the awareness has not been highlighted enough, especially to school children,” said Knauff.
He recently attended a talk by founder of the NPO Best For Children, Juanita Walker at Brighton Beach Senior Primary School (BBSPS). Human trafficking has become a global problem and recent local kidnappings and attempted kidnappings have highlighted the scourge in South Africa. Wentworth residents also recently marched through their streets to speak out against kidnappers.
The talk was held to take heed of World Day against Trafficking in Persons, on 30 July.
“BBSPS staff have proven themselves as pro-active guardians of their pupils. The school is also accepted as a partner with SA Can’s Youth Desk, ensuring the safety of their pupils is paramount and continuing their service of excellence to their pupils.
Similar programmes should be rolled out to all schools. Not just the schools, but also the public should also be made aware of this reality.”
