Showcase your talent at Playhouse auditions

Young professionals with no less than three years practical stage experience will also be considered.

The Playhouse Company is holding auditions for young performers to join its Actors’ Studio, a resident company aimed primarily at recent graduates who hold a tertiary qualification in drama. Young professionals with no less than three years practical stage experience will also be considered.

Successful candidates will join the Playhouse Actors’ Studio for a period of a eight months during which they will attend workshops and master classes aimed at enhancing their practical skills and further developing their talent in a professional theatre environment. The Studio will also provide opportunities for its members to appear in Playhouse Company productions with established guest artists and to develop educational tours and outreach programmes.

Those interested in auditioning must prepare the following:

  1. Personal testimonies – a) your past involvement in the arts b) motivation for wanting to be a part of the programme
  2. Written idea of a play – provide a synopsis of a story (1/5 page) with an attached rationale
  3. Audition – A prepared monologue for audition. (Piece must come from a South African writer)
  4. List of other areas of interest within the arts
  5. Provide two referees that we can contact to verify commitment, discipline and drive.
  6. Short listed candidates must be prepared to participate in a two day workshop (Monday and Tuesday 7 to 8 August 2017) and must be available to being in the programme immediately.

Auditions will be held on Monday, 7 August 2017 in Studio A1 (Playhouse Head Office, 29 Acutt Street, Durban). Please note that you might be required to wait for your audition. Booking is essential.
