Wednesday is daiquiri day

It's never too cold to enjoy a nice icy Daiquiri.

So we might be in the midst of winter, but being in Durban with its African sun, a person can do with one small and chilled daiquiri.  And in celebration of National Daiquiri Day, this is the perfect day to whip up a jug.

The original Daiquiri consists of rum, lime juice and sugar, with plenty of ice added to the glass. The Daiquiri was first created in 1898 by Jennings Stockton Cox, an American mining engineer. The Daiquiri was named after the local mining village of Daiquiri, Cuba, at the Venus bar.

Now, let’s all take a minute and thank Jennings Cox for this blessing of an invention. Thank you!

It’s time to whip up a delicious batch:

  • 5 large, fresh or frozen whole strawberries
    1 tablespoon lime juice
    1 teaspoon sugar
    45ml of Bacardi Light Rum
    1/2 cup crushed ice

Method:

  1. Blend all ingredients for 10-20 seconds.
  2. Serve in a chilled cocktail glass.
  3. Garnish with strawberries.

Sip and enjoy!
