City plans towards Solomon Mahlangu M7 upgrade

How often do you use this road?

MANY a frustrated and fuming commuter has asked when and if the concrete section of Solomon Mahlangu Drive, west of South Coast Road will ever take place.

The part of the road which becomes the M7 and is one of the main arterial routes to and from the Bluff has been in a state of degradation for years. Constant repair work has left motorists frustrated and put lives at risk, with exposed rebar and sudden lane closures.

With many trucks and other heavy duty vehicles bound for the port using this main thoroughfare, some sections of the roadway have required repair multiple times. Seldom a day has passed in the last several years when some stretch of the road is not being repaired.

But relief might be in sight. eThekwini head of communications, Tozi Mthethwa said: “There is a plan to undertake a full rehabilitation of Solomon Mahlangu Drive. The tender through which this work will be undertaken is currently being evaluated.”

Until such time as the tender is awarded, Mthethwa said routine maintenance will continue to keep the road in a functional condition.

How often do you use this road? Have you had any problems with it? Tell us what you think abou this planned upgrade.
