Bok captain an avid ex-Southlands reader

A rugby fan got Springbok captain to pose with the Sun.

RUGBY super fan, Jop Fourie captured former Bluffite and current rugby Springbok captain, Warren Whiteley in a photo with last week’s Southlands Sun.

Fourie said he liked to try meet up with the rugby players and when he heard that Whiteley grew up on the Bluff he decided to take his local paper along to a Springbok training session held ahead of the SA-France test on Saturday, 17 June at Kings Park Stadium.

“When I showed him the paper, he admitted he used to be a frequent reader of it when he lived on the Bluff,” said Fourie.

Whiteley attended Dirkie Uys Primary School when he lived in the area. Some of his family still live on the Bluff.

He was named the 58th Springbok captain earlier this year after making his test debut in 2014. Despite Whiteley being ruled out of this weekend’s final test in the three-match series against France due to a groin injury, delighted fans witnessed his team beat France.
