Clairwood man assaulted with steel pipes

The men assaulted the complainant with steel pipes after they accused him of stealing a bag.

A CLAIRWOOD man was assaulted with steel pipes after he was accused of stealing a bag on Tuesday, 25 April.

It is alleged the man was having a few drinks with three men who later assaulted him.

Montclair SAPS communications officer, Capt Dereck Vijiam said, “The men offered him a place to stay as he was too intoxicated to return home. The next morning, he was woken up by one of the three men who asked him about a bag that was close to where he slept.”

“The victim denied taking the bag but they demanded he pay R150,” said Vijiam.

Th after he was unable to give them the money. He alleged that despite borrowing the money from a truck driver to pay them, they continued to beat him.

He was rescued by an unknown elderly woman. Montclair SAPS is investigating a case of grievous bodily harm (GBH). The suspects are known to the police.
