LIKE a missing piece of the puzzle, CROW’s new marketing and communications officer, Chandre De Bruyn is able to combine her passion for working with children and the elderly with her love for animals.
The 22-year-old, who completed her B Com degree in marketing management at the end of 2016, said she had three great loves and she was excited to be able to bring them together in her work.
“It is great being able to do what I love. Bringing children and the elderly on tours throughout the centre and educating them on wildlife is what I enjoy,” said Chandre.
A major focus of her degree was social media and its uses and she has parlayed that into improving the Centre for Rehabilitation of Wildlife’s (CROW) reach since she took up the job on Monday, 3 April.
The Queensburgh resident attended Werda Skool and loves taibo, crafts, interior decorating, event planning, camping, admiring nature and hiking. She hopes to bring new campaigns to the centre and broaden its recognition within the surrounding communities and beyond.
“Educating people is so important. People need to be aware of CROW and the work we do here. I am proud to be a part of this – I am nervous, but excited and it has brought a sense of worth to me.”

Her favourite animal is the panda, no, it’s the bulldog.
“I can never decide between the two. I love them both. In fact I like combining them and calling them bullpandas. A lot of people call me by my nickname, Chanda-Panda because they know how much I love them,” she laughed.
“I am grateful to CROW for providing me with this amazing opportunity to start off my career in marketing. Not only do I have a great position, but I get to spend time with animals and help make the community aware of how to make it a better world for the animals.”
